[Tutorial Lecture] Trend of adding wireless communication functions to medical devices and FDA guidelines in the U.S.
Eisuke Hanada (Saga Univ.) WBS2020-7 MICT2020-6
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) in clinical medicine is remarkable. In Japan, ICT has been already widely used for communication in hospital information systems and for control of medical devices. In the near future, medical devices are likely to have the ability to perform wireless communication. In US, FDA approves devices for clinical use, and there is already a system to investigate wireless communication functions. FDA has developed guidelines. This time, I have received a video letter with the cooperation of FDA to introduce the current situation in US. This presentation will provide an opportunity to compare the situation between Japan and US, and to think about what the future should be about the wireless communication with medical devices.
