Joint Transmit Power and 3-Dimentional Beamforming Control using Neural Networks for MIMO Small Cell Systems

(in English) A densely deployed small cell system is expected to improve the system capacity of mobile communications. Since the neighboring cells are overlapped, however, inter-cell interference (ICI) increases and thus degrades the system capacity. To suppress such ICI, the base stations (BSs) conduct the exhaustive search (ES) to find the optimal combination of transmit power levels and precoding matrices from a pre-defined codebook. However, ES requires a prohibitive amount of computational complexity that grows exponentially with the number of BSs. This report aims at a joint power and beamforming control method that can reduce such complexity drastically for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) small cell systems. The contribution of the report is threefold: 1) it proposes a neural network (NN) that approximately conducts ES while requiring much less complexity; 2) it additionally passes correlation among channel matrices of user terminals into the NN to improve the system capacity; 3) it applies the proposed NN-based scheme into 3D-beamforming MIMO systems. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed NN-based scheme can achieve nearly optimal system capacity at a cost of much lower complexity. It is also shown that the enhanced input into the NN is effective on improving the performance of the NN, and that the proposed NN-based scheme is very suitable for the 3D-beamforming MIMO system and can improve the system capacity.
