Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Network function virtualization (NFV) provides network functions by implementing virtual network function (VNF) on a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) server.
In a service chain that uses multiple VNFs in a suitable order, the number of VNF instances and route selection have to be managed dynamically according to the amount of traffic.
In this paper, we propose an optimal VNF placement and route selection with model predictive control for service chains.
Our proposed method utilizes the predicted value of injected traffic for each service chain to decide the optimal number of VNF instances.
In addition, this method selects the optimal route for each service chain. These processes are performed with model predictive control (MPC).
We evaluate the performance of the proposed method with simulation and investigate its effectiveness.
