A Calculation Model of Protection Area for Spectrum Sharing in VHF-Band

(in English) When various wireless communication systems share a spectrum, it is necessary to calculate the amount of interference by radio propagation models and estimate the protection area of each system. From the viewpoint of interference protection, traditional models are not adequate to estimate the interference protection area because the area may be extremely large. Conversely, interference cannot be avoided if the estimated area becomes small. In this report, we propose a new calculation model of protection area using the location gain. In addition, the undetermined coefficients in the proposed model are determined using the actual measured values obtained by the VHF-band propagation experiment performed in urban area of the Kyoto city. The proposed model improves spatial spectrum utilization efficiency while realizing more reliable interference protection than the conventional one.
