Diffraction of an EM plane wave by a rectangular hole in a thick screen -- Evaluation of the solution convergence and transmission property --

(in English) Aperture field distributions and the amount of power transmission through the aperture are calculated for various values of the edge properties by using the exact solution based on the Kobayashi potential (KP) for the plane wave diffraction by a rectangular hole in a perfectly conducting screen with a thickness, and we examine the convergent property of the solution with respect to the truncation of terms. As a result, new knowledge about the electromagnetic fields near edges is obtained. We also derive a concise formula for predicting the screen thickness that brings the strong power transmission, which is based on the concept of the plane-wave decomposition of waveguide modes and multiple reflection for the plane waves.
