Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this lecture, trends and Ericsson’s challenges in RAN (Radio Access Network) virtualization and open RAN are introduced. First, evolution of mobile network from 4G to 5G including CN (Core Network) and RAN and how their respective deployments are changing are discussed. Then, regarding the RAN virtualization, benefits from the viewpoint of separation of upper layers are described. Ericsson’s challenges in RAN virtualization are also introduced. Regarding open RAN, based on the discussions at O-RAN, RAN configurations of today and tomorrow compliant with 3GPP in contrast to open RAN target architecture are explained. In addition, intelligent RAN utilizing AI that is a very important role in 5G RAN is also mentioned.
