Does perception of writing trajectory facilitate letter writing acquisition? -- Russian alphabet learning for Japanese novices --

(in English) The objective of this study was to confirm the effect of animation in letter writing acquisition. For Forty-six Russian beginner Japanese university students, Russian alphabet learning task was conducted. In the animation condition, participants were presented a letter writing trajectory movie with correct pronunciation whereas participants in the still condition were presented still letter with audio. The results showed a slight advantage of the animation condition with a strong trend toward significant. Usefulness of animation in letter writing acquisition was discussed.
