One of the most straightforward method of sound field measurement is the use of a microphone array. However, since this is done with a finite number of recording elements whose spatial dimensions are not negligible, there are problems such as spatial aliasing and disturbance of the field by the elements themselves. In this study, we utilize the nonlinear acoustic interaction between target sound field and the focused ultrasound field generated by an airborne ultrasound phased array. This interaction is expected to result in secondary pinpoint sound sources at the focal region and local information of the target sound field can be retrieved by capturing this secondary emission. Thus we propose a non--contact, remote and pinpoint three--dimensional acoustic measurement method and experimentally verify its feasibility. |
