Effective Pedagogy for a Business Interpreting Class -- Reflections and Peer Reviews --
Miwa Morishita (Kobe Gakuin Univ.) TL2019-62
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) All through the four-year curricula of undergraduate education in Japan, approaches incorporating what can be grossly termed as “active learning” are considered effective. Among various possible implementations, repeated reflections based on self-evaluations and continuous reflections based on peer-reviews / peer-evaluations are relatively easy to conduct in any class. The author tried something along this line in a business interpreting class at a private university in Japan in the school year of 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, focusing on note-taking skills for interpreting. The class approach is briefly summarized, followed by a discussion on the data obtained from students’ self-evaluations and peer-reviews.
