A Terminal-Role Multiplicity Control Method for Bluetooth MANETs in High-density Environments

(in English) Bluetooth MANETs are mobile ad hoc networks constructed by mobile terminals such as smartphones communicating using Bluetooth. So far, we have proposed a fast connection-establishment method by using both Classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy technologies (hereinafter, referred to as existing method) for Bluetooth MANETs. In the existing method, piconets consisting of terminals with Master or Slave role are formed more than necessary because a terminal executes the connection-establishment procedure every time it discovers adjacent terminals. Thus, when terminals are crowded, each terminal-role multiplexes and the load on each terminal increases considerably because of belonging to an enormous number of piconets. Also, radio interference is likely to occur due to increasing the number of piconets which independently manages the communication channels. In this paper, we propose a new terminal-role multiplexity control method which suppresses to form piconets excessively for Bluetooth MANETs in high-density environments. Also, we implemented our proposed method on a network simulator to evaluate its performance. From the experimental results, we have confirmed that our proposed method can reduce the number of piconets in networks and the number of piconets per terminal compared to the existing method while it maintains the connectivity of Bluetooth MANETs at the same level of the existing method.
