In November 2019, NTT DOCOMO and Nakao Laboratory, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, The University of Tokyo succeeded in an experimental trial of large-capacity, low-latency communication using the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system and remote monitoring of fishing grounds using underwater drones. In the fisheries industry, attention has been focused on efforts to reduce the burden on workers by utilizing Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Further improvement of productivity is expected by utilizing the remote monitoring system by which underwater conditions can be grasped more efficiently. In this experiment, 5G is used between a base station on land and a mobile station on a small boat at sea to transmit underwater video at a maximum throughput of 317Mbps while controlling the underwater drone connected to the ship without delay. In this paper, we report the results of measuring parameters of the wireless link and throughput while adjusting part of parameters with the aim of measuring the performance of wireless system control over 5G from the communication side and the control side. |
