The fifth generation (5G) mobile communications system is expected to provide wireless communications services for a wide range of use cases and be utilized by providers in various environments. Its deployment is expected to increase with the introduction of local 5G systems, where private entities can deploy their own 5G microcells to create local private networks. This motivates the need for spectrum sharing research in the mmWave spectrum. Furthermore, the use of array antennas in 5G systems opens the possibility for spectrum sharing in the angular domain as well. In this paper, compressive sensing is investigated as a method to perform spectrum sensing in the frequency and angular domains efficiently using a small number of compressed measurements. The joint angular-frequency spectrum sensing problem for wideband signals is formulated as a compressive sensing (CS) problem. A novel CS-based algorithm is proposed for wideband sources, which includes the usage of frequency-dependent steering matrices. Computational load was further reduced by applying modifications to the Kronecker Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (Kron-OMP) algorithm, and group-sparsity was enforced over the frequency domain to improve detection of wideband sources. The proposed algorithm is evaluated using various parameters through Monte Carlo simulations. |
