| (in English) | We can selectively focus our auditory attention to a particular speech or music.The function is called selective attention.It is known that the brain response related to the attentional direction occurred to electroencephalogram (EEG) while different speeches are presented at the same time.We hypothesized that the attentional direction can be estimated from EEG while simultaneously listening to music and speech.During the experiment, music and speech were presented simultaneously and participants were instructed to attend to either music or speech.As a result of the cross-correlation function between EEG and the envelope of the auditory stimulus, distinct negative and positive peaks were found and the entrainment to the attended speech occured stronger in the left temporal region near Wernicke's area.By classification of attentional direction using common spatial pattern (CSP), ten out of the seventeen participants achieved an accuracy of over 99%.This result shows that the attentional direction can be estimated from EEG using CSP.Using peak values of cross-correlation function or reconstructed sound from EEG, the attentional direction were well estimated for three out of the seventeen participants. | |
