Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Today, business environment is rapidly changing, mainly in digital field. A transition from conventional monolithic services to microservices with container technology is also progressing. Services-implemented containers are deployed in virtual infrastructures on the cloud and on-premises, and the virtual infrastructures are deployed on physical infrastructures. In order to operate microservices properly, it is important to monitor not only the quality of service, but also the quality of the infrastructures utilized by the service. Conventional technology can monitor the quality of the services and metrics of the infrastructures which utilized by the containers. However, it is insufficient to monitor the network performance, such as delay or packet-level information. eBPF (extended Berkeley Packet Filter) is a relatively new function in a linux kernel. The eBPF can be effectively used as the kernel performance’s sensor with light load on the system. However, when the eBPF sensors are used to monitor the network performance of the services, the eBPF miss the containers that move away from an original virtual infrastructure to another virtual infrastructure. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the metrics of infrastructure related with the service that utilize the infrastructure. To realize the service-oriented monitoring system, there are two main challenges. One is creating fullstack topology between service, container and virtual infrastructure in order to set the eBPF sensor related with the service. Another is dynamic sensor management system that can relocate the sensor quickly after the container’s movement.
In this paper, we develop a real time monitoring system that monitor events of an container orchestrator and recreate the topology between service, container and virtual infrastructure in the case of triggering by the events. The system enables managing eBPF sensor dynamically related with the monitored services
