Production and auditory features of speech sounds before and after vocal training using hearing impairment simulator, WHIS

(in English) We studied the effect of voice training using hearing impairment simulator on speech clarity. We recorded speech and ElectroGlottoGram (EGG) signal during the training session and then performed experiments on speech clarity evaluation using Scheffe's paired comparison. We analyzed speech production features, namely fundamental frequency Fo and open quadrant (Oq), and auditory feature, namely speech envelope modulation index. As a result, the correlation between Oq values and subjective clarity scores was very low. In contrast, the correlation between the modulation indices and subjective clarity scores was moderately high. The modulation index may be useful for estimating speech clarity.
