Performance evaluation of distributed parallel backprojection for stripmap SAR imaging on various accelerators

(in English) This paper presents a performance evaluation of the distributed parallel backprojection for stripmap sar imaging on various accelerators to obtain accurate imagery in real-time. In this parallel algorithm, the observation signals are divided into sub-regions using synthetic aperture size of tips on sub-image to use multiple accelerators. We developed an OpenCL application for FPGAs-embedded small-sized Core i7 system, and a CUDA application for GPUs-embedded large-sized Xeon system. In the case of imaging for the airborne SAR data with 25546x7200 points, 4-threaded CPU, integrated GPU (Iris Pro Graphics 580), and dual FPGA (Arria10 GX1150) take 3067 s, 305 s, and 1101 s on the small-sized system respectively. We found that quad GPU (Tesla V100) takes 3 s, which is 45.4 times faster than 96-threaded quad CPU (Xeon E7-8890v4), on the large-sized system.
