[Invited Talk] High-Speed-Operation of All-Silicon Modulator Integrated with Passive Equalizer

(in English) Silicon photonics technology is a promising candidate for a small form factor optical transceiver with a large transmission capacity and a low power consumption. One of the main challenge is due to the high baud rate operation for optical modulators with a low power consumption. In our group, we have been developed an all-silicon modulator based on highly-efficient lumped-electrode optical phase shifters driven by a CMOS inverter driver. We can optimize a trade-off between an analog bandwidth and a modulation efficiency of the phase shifter by using a forward-biased PIN phase shifter integrated with a passive RC equalizer. In this paper, we review the concept of the lumped-electrode PIN-RC phase shifter and the development for the high-speed operation of this modulator.
