[Short Paper] Growth process analysis of nodular shadows in chest CT images using function expression

(in English) Volume changes of lung nodules were recognized to prognose and to predict the abnormalities in the follow-up treatments. The purpose of this study was to compare the volume growth of lung nodules between benign and malignant cases, and to obtain an approximated function based on exponentials from those actual volumes. We have manually extracted 287 nodules from 20 benign and 29 malignant cases. The interaction effects between the two groups were also tested statistically. As a result of the analysis, 92% of the growing processes of nodules were expressed one exponential function. The interaction among the malignant cases were also indicated with a statistical significance. In conclusion, a large difference of growth between benign and malignant nodules was verified, and the similar differences even among the malignant cases were observed.
