(in English) Recently, Transcranial Doppler method (TCD) is used for the evaluation of blood flow and the detection of emboli in the brain. This method sends ultrasound through the thinnest part of the temporal bone and observes blood flow in Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) and Anterior Cerebral Artery (ACA). However, the observation using TCD is often difficult for Japanese elderly women. Osteoporosis is common in Japanese elderly women and obstructs the ultrasound propagation. Therefore, we created a temporal bone model in osteoporosis and studied the ultrasound propagation through the temporal bone using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. As a result, the ultrasound attenuated well in the osteoporotic model.
