Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Commercial services in fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system will start by using 3.7 GHz, 4.5 GHz, and 28 GHz bands in Japan. Especially, in the 28 GHz band, the higher bit-rate transmission attracts much attention because the wider bandwidth of 400 MHz is available. On the other hand, for further enhancement of 5G (5G evolution), it is expected that the more stable high bit-rate transmission using high SHF bands such as 28 GHz or EHF bands is realized even in high-mobility environments such as high-speed trains. We conducted 5G experimental trials employing 28 GHz-band 5G experimental systems that implement beamforming and beam tracking functions in railway environments where a train travels at a velocity of almost 100 km/h, and verified the feasibility of the stable high bit-rate transmission. However, in future 5G use cases in the Shinkansen, a dynamic change of the beam direction and the larger Doppler shift may cause performance degradation of the 28 GHz-band transmission. Thus, we have conducted a 28 GHz-band 5G experimental trial using an actual high-speed bullet train that runs at a maximum speed of 283 km/h. This report introduces a 28 GHz-band 5G experimental system used for the 5G experimental trial and detailed experimental configuration where three base stations were deployed along rail track of the Tokaido Shinkansen and a mobile station was set in a vehicle, and clarifies downlink transmission performances measured in such a high-mobility environment.
