A thin, lightweight and flexible noise suppression sheet made of high resistance non-magnetic metal-coated non-woven fabric has been proposed as a countermeasure against undesired electromagnetic noise resulting from printed circuit boards and cables. In this study, we measured and analyzed the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics for metal-coated non-woven fabric when a plane electromagnetic wave of 5.38-40 GHz was incident on it, and we investigated the absorption mechanism. First, we measured the sheet resistance of the metal-coated non-woven fabric, and confirmed that the resistance was different depending on the angle between the fiber direction and the applied current direction at 0° and 90°. Next, we demonstrated the plane electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics at 5.38-40 GHz and showed that they had different absorption characteristics depending on the angle between the fiber direction and the electric field direction of the electromagnetic wave. We also modeled a metal-coated non-woven fabric as a uniform continuum conductor and we calculated the plane electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics by Schelkunoff's equation, and confirmed that the calculation results were almost similar to trend of the experimental trends. This result shows that the metal-coated non-woven fabric could be modeled as a continuous conductor with anisotropic sheet resistance. |
