Doppler Spectrum Analysis of Sea Surface Using MR-FDTD Method

(in English) Sea state observation technology using ocean radar can be applied to tsunami detection, drift fluid tracking, tide detection, drift ice monitoring and so on. Ocean radar can calculate the velocity of the ocean current by illuminating radio waves to the sea surface and measuring the scattered waves. However, when the wavelength of the sea surface is an integer multiple of half the wavelength of the illuminated radio wave, it is reported that the peak of measured Doppler spectrum was deviated from the Doppler shift caused by the phase velocity of the sea surface. The purpose of this study is to clarify the cause of this phenomenon by simulation. In this paper, ocean radar was reproduced on the simulation using MR-FDTD method, and it was verified whether the same phenomenon as actual measurement could be confirmed.
