In this work, we developed a real-time motion identification system using the radio channel characteristics of wearable body area network (WBAN). We built up a custom wearable BAN channel measurement system with a commercial off-the-shelf sensor network system, where a radio signal strength between four sensors and coordinator could be measured. After preprocessing of interpolation and standardization for the measured raw data, the time domain features are calculated, and then body motion is identified by machine learning algorithm. Random forest based on decision tree learning was selected as the machine learning method because it is suitable for real-time processing where the calculation cost is low and data must be processed one after another. We measured radio channel characteristic data from multiple subjects, evaluated the classification accuracy of the motion identification system, and showed that it can be classified sufficiently. In addition, We measured the demonstration using the built real-time motion identification system, and revealed its potential for practical use in a variety of daily life applications. |
