[Poster Presentation] Ginzburg-Landau theory for spinor bosons in an optical lattice

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Since the observation of the Mott insulating - superfluid (MI-SF) phase transition , bosons trapped in an optical lattice offer novel opportunities for exploring fundamental issues in condensed matter physics.
Motivated by the realization of Bose-Einstein condensation of spin-1 bosons, spinor bosons in an optical lattice have been also studied theoretically.
This system is well described by the spin-1 Bose-Hubbard model.
We assume that the interaction between atoms is antiferromagnetic.
In the previous study, the MI-SF phase transition is predicted to be of first-order .
To describe the SF phase in the vicinity of the MI-SF transition, we derive the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equation with the six-th order terms in terms of the SF order parameter.
By linearizing the TDGL equation, we analyze the Nambu-Goldstone and Higgs modes associated with the spontaneous breaking of the gauge and spin rotational symmetry.
We also discuss instabilities and determine critical velocity for superfluid flow.
