[Poster Presentation] A Study of Hidden Node Discrimination Method using Wireless LAN Packets

(in English) Hidden node problem is well known problem to degrade wireless LAN performance. In IoT era, due to increasing the number of nodes the effect of the problem becomes significant due to the increase in nodes. Therefore, it is important to recognize the hidden nodes for avoiding performance degradation because if the hidden nodes can be avoided by adaptively selecting the channel or changing the carrier sense level. In this paper, we propose a method for predicting the influence of hidden nodes from wireless LAN packet information collected using crowd sensing. Here packet error rate without packet collision is predicted by the relationship between the averaged RSSI value of one connected node to an access point (AP) and packet error status collected from the node. Then by comparing the observed packet error rate and the predicted error rate, the packet error rate caused by packet collision can be calculated. This predicted packet error rate is mainly caused by hidden node so that the error rate can be used for estimating the influence of hidden node. Finally, the value can be used for channel selection algorithm for avoiding the effect of hidden node problem.
