For applications and services of connected vehicles, the new use case of ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC) has been added in the fifth generation mobile communications system (5G), in addition to the conventional 4G use case of enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB). The typical requirements of URLLC are the reliability of 32-byte packet transmission is more than 99.999 %, and the maximum air latency is 1 ms. Furthermore, high frequencies not only in microwave band but also millimeter-wave band such as 28 GHz are used in 5G to realize a large-capacity transmission, including URLLC. However, according to the frequency increase, a cell coverage becomes small due to a large propagation loss, and the maximum Doppler frequency of fading becomes high, resulting in a severe transmission performance degradation. Therefore, to satisfy the various performance requirements such as the reliability, latency, and energy efficiency in 5G URLLC, applying additional technologies are indispensable. We have studied some schemes to tackle this problem and to improve the performance of URLLC. In particular, we consider exploiting a cooperative vehicle-to-vehicle transmission to improve an uplink vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) transmission from far vehicle, an adaptive beam tracking scheme at the vehicle side for uplink V2I transmission, and an open-loop hybrid automatic repeat request scheme for low-latency transmission. In this study, we introduce these schemes. |
