[Poster Presentation] Transmission test of Sony ELTRES using a tracking device

(in English) Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) wireless communication is being introduced as a standard for the Internet of Things (IoT). The features of
LPWA are low power, wide area coverage, and long distance communication. Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), one type of LPWA,
has a communication speed of approximately 100 kbps and a communication distance of approximately 20 km. It is defined by The 3
rd
Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), which formulates LTE standards. When a communication system that has a base station is constructed,
a communication standard with a long communication distance is desired. This is because the communication distance affects the base station
installation cost. Under such circumstances, Sony Network Communications has announced its own LPWA communication standard “ELTRES”. ELTRES can communicate over 100 km in an area that has good visibility. It can communicate even when moving at speeds of over 100 km/h. We conducted a transmission test using Sony's LPWA prototype. In this paper, we report the result of an investigation of the
transmission distance.
