When it snows, it often sounds quiet outdoors. This is because snow inhibits sound transmission. Snowfall is known to make it difficult to hear the sound, especially mid-low tones. The above phenomenon is considered to have a great influence on the warning message of the disaster prevention radio broadcasting system. In the event of a disaster, the information from the warning system may cause a serious situation when it is disturbed by the effects of snow.
Accordingly, In this study, we clarified how much the amount of snow accumulation, the amount of snowfall and the density, the major factors of snow, contribute to speech intelligibility and its compensation method was examined. In order to measure the transfer characteristics of the snow, an impulse response measurement experiment was performed 13 times under different conditions outdoors in the snow. The measured transfer characteristics were convoluted with the test speech, and the Japanese intelligibility test was performed using these samples. Multiple regression analysis was performed using speech intelligibility as the objective variable and snow factor as explanatory variables, and the contribution rate to intelligibility was analyzed. As a result, it was found that although there is some influence on the amount of snowfall and density, the influence of the amount of snowfall becomes dominant as the distance between the loudspeaker and the listener (microphone) becomes large. Furthermore, using the acquired transfer characteristics, we examined the compensation filter for snow attenuation. |
