| (in English) | Japanese Sign Language (JSL) is the first language for deaf people in Japan, especially those born deaf or who lost hearing in early childhood, and is easier for them to understand. To increase information services in JSL, we have been developing a machine translation system from Japanese texts to JSL computer graphics (CG) animations. We apply the system not only to weather information but also to sports one. In the new application, we have the problem of dealing with the differences in word order between Japanese and JSL. To overcome the problem, we propose syntactic transfer-based machine translation, in which the translation knowledge is acquired automatically from a Japanese-JSL bilingual corpus, and we obtain 10.3 points up in our proposed machine translation than in the conventional one at BLEU score. | |
