28-GHz Band 5G Downlink Throughput Enhancement Using Reflectarray with Variable Phase Shifter

(in English) SHF band (3 to 30 GHz) radio waves, used for fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication systems, has an issue to establish transmission quality by path loss increase due to shadowing and less radio wave diffraction. A reflectarray with variable phase shifter is one of technologies that improves the transmission quality. The reflectarray can optimize the radio transmission paths to enhance throughput by controlling phase shifter on each reflector element. This report proposes new simple algorithm to set the values on all of phase shifter uniquely, which is used to be done based on exhaustive search. Furthermore, it shows simulation results with the proposed algorithm by the link level simulation under 5G downlink MIMO-OFDM channels in the 28 GHz band. And also shows 3.1 Gbps (3.4 times improvement) of throughput in SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of -3dB condition.
