Measurement and analysis of elevation arrival angle characteristics at MS in Mobile Communication

(in English) Spatial processing techniques such as Adaptive Array Antenna (AAA) and Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) have been the focus for realizing 4th and 5th generation mobile cellular systems. In order to accurately estimate the performance of these spatial processing techniques for high speed broadband mobile communications, we need a time-spatial path model that allows the characteristics of the delay profile and those of the spatial arrival angle profile for travelling waves to be simulated at the same time. Especially for spatial processing techniques such as Massive MIMO, not only the azimuth arrival angle profile but also elevation arrival angle profile must be modelled. While many studies on the elevation arrival angle characteristics at base station have been carried out, few have examined the elevation arrival angle characteristics at mobile station. Therefore, it is need for an elevation arrival angle profile model at mobile station that can take city structures into consideration in order to fully evaluate spatial processing techniques such as Massive MIMO in various outdoor propagation environments. In this paper, we measure and analyze the elevation arrival angle characteristics at mobile station in urban and suburban areas.
