[Poster Presentation] Development of SHF Band Channel Sounder by Virtual Cubic Array

(in English) Due to the increasing demand of the user traffic forward the 5th generation mobile communication system, utilizing massive multiple-input and multiple-output (Massive MIMO) transmission at frequency bands above 6 GHz has attracted huge attention in recent years. Since the performance of MIMO depends on the propagation environment, a system measuring its characteristics, known as channel sounder is essential for designing and evaluating a MIMO system. The authors develop the SIMO channel sounder at 12 GHz band introducing virtual array technology. For the response of each array element is measured by positioning an antenna through every element location sequentially, the number of receiver antenna is only 1 despite the array size. By introducing virtual array technology, this system can fit any array size and eliminate calibration of mutual coupling. In this work, an indoor measurement was performed as a part of the performance analysis of the developed channel sounder. As a result, the beamforming spectrum for line-of-sight measurement by applying matched filter was in good agreement with the theoretical spectrum for single arrival wave, and therefore the fluctuation of the received signal due to the uncertainty of positioning and deformation of cable is low enough.
