Measurement method of water depth on steel plate using Lamb waves

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A method to detect water as well as to measure water depth in a metal housing using Lamb waves is shown. Two angle beam probes are set to the steel plate which is the bottom of the metal housing, A0 mode is excited in the steel plate, and detection and measurement of water depth are carried out from characteristics of the receives signals. It is shown by simulation that the amplitude as well as the frequency spectrum of the signal are varied corresponding to the water depth when the depth is shallow compared with the wavelength. There is possibility to measure the water depth using the spectrum because the peak frequency is related to the water depth.
