Pulse wave imaging of abdominal aorta using high temporal resolution ultrasound measurement

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) An arteriosclerosis is a symptom of the aorta aneurysm, and it is important to detect the arteriosclerosis in the early stage. The pulse wave velocity (PWV) has been used as a quantitative index of elastic property of the arterial wall. In this study, propagation of the pulse wave in an abdominal aorta was visualized by the medical ultrasound imaging with a high frame rate of 5000 Hz. Using the obtained ultrasound RF signals, the PWV was estimated using the normalized cross correlation function. In this study, the PWV was estimated to be 5.25 m/s, which is consistent with the experimental results in the previous study. Also, peak values of each cross-correlation function were over 0.9, and thus, it is considered that the estimation results were reliable.
