A Study of Multi-Functional Multi-Core Fiber Including a Low Latency Core and Its Application

(in English) Not only enlarging transmission capacity but decreasing latency in optical transmission has been drowning considerable attention in accordance with diversification of network services. In this study, a multi-functional multi-core fiber (MF-MCF) housing a low-latency core and conventional low-loss silica cores simultaneously was proposed. We then proposed advanced digital-signal processing based on the MF-MCF, which enabled to reduce both processing complexity and latency.
