Arrays of small Josephson junctions exhibit a unique current-voltage characteristics known as Coulomb blockade. Experiments of such arrays irradiated with microwaves have demonstrated that the Coulomb blockade voltage is linearly diminished with microwave power. On the other hand, it is known that Superconducting Single Electron Transistor (SSET), which is also composed of small Josephson junctions, emits energy through various radiative tunneling processes.
In this experiment, we fabricate in situ an array of small Aluminum Josephson junctions on a Silicon substrate adjacent to Superconducting Single Electron Transistor (SSET) acting as a source of microwaves, and observe the response (the change in the Coulomb blockade width) of the array to the radiation emitted by the SSET. Consequently, we evaluate the applicability of the array as an effective on site microwave detector. |
