Analysis of a simple stochastic hybrid dynamical system using its Fokker-Planck equation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The intermittent control in human quiet standing is a hypothetical model that we proposed recently, in which a conventional (time-delay) proportional-derivative feedback controller is switched on and off discontinuously depending on the postural state. When torque noise is considered, this model is formulated by a stochastic hybrid dynamical system that switches between two stochastic differential equations representing the sub-systems with and without actions of the feedback controller. Dynamics of a stochastic differential equation are often analyzed using its Fokker-Planck equation. However, little studies reported the use of Fokker-Planck equations for stochastic hybrid dynamical systems. In this study, we analyze a very simple stochastic hybrid dynamical system model using its Fokker-Planck equation to provide a basis of a theoretical analysis for the intermittent control model in human quiet standing. In particular, we analyzed a hybrid Fokker-Planck equation that satisfies a continuity in the stochastic flux at the discontinuous switching surface, as a boundary condition, using a finite element method.
