Theoretical Design of K-band MPhC Band-Pass Filters based on Coupling Matrix Synthesis

(in English) The metallic photonic crystal (MPhC) structure has provided a very attractive platform to design of various high-frequency filters with low-cost, high Q-factor, and easy integration with planar circuits. The MPhC structure is constructed on a dielectric substrate with periodic arrays of metallic via-holes or metallic posts by a standard printed circuit board (PCB: RT/Duroid 5880). In order to design metallic photonic crystal bandpass filters, the coupling matrix is calculated by sequentially adding each segment of the filter and utilizing the electromagnetic field simulator, the structural parameters of each segment are tuned to satisfy the desired characteristics. By optimizing for one segment of the filter at a time, structural parameters with desired filter characteristics can be efficiently designed without requiring global optimization for all structural parameters. The measured results are in a good agreement with the simulated results.
