Relation between conditions of dots and areal recording density in HDMR

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Heated dot magnetic recording (HDMR), which is a new recording method combining heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) and bit patterned media (BPM), has been proposed to increase recording density of magnetic hard disk drives. In this study, the relationships between dispersion of dot size and position of the BPM, the Curie temperature and an areal recording density were investigated using micromagnetics simulation. As a result, when an average dot size is 8 nm, both bit and track pitches are 12 nm, the dispersions of dot diameter, dot position, and the Curie temperature are equal or lower than 2% , 1%, and 2%, respectively, for bit error rates (BERs) of on-track and adjacent track of 0. Then, the areal recording density is 4.48 Tbit/inch^2
