Design and Evaluation of 3-Dimensional Printed Reflector Fresnel Lens Antenna Based on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Plastics for W-Band Millimeter-Wave Radar Applications

(in English) This report discusses the design and evaluation of 3-dimensional (3D) printed reflector Fresnel lens antenna based on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastics for W-Band millimeter-wave radar applications. The problem to realize 3D printed high-gain millimeter wave antenna is the gain degradation due to the relatively high dielectric loss tangent of ABS plastics. First, the antenna gain degradation of a thick reflector lens antenna and a thin reflector Fresnel lens antenna are compared using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis. Then, the analyzed results of the reflector-lens antenna and the reflector Fresnel lens antenna show 10.5 dB and 1.6 dB antenna gain reduction due to dielectric loss of the lens material, respectively. Finally, the designed 250 mm diameter reflector Fresnel lens antenna is fabricated using commercially available 3D printer with ABS filament. The measured maximum antenna gain and azimuth half-power beamwitdh are 36.0 dBi and 1.1 degrees, respectively. This result confirms the effectiveness of the FDTD analysis results with 37.2 dBi antenna gain.
