High-resolution horizontal permittivity distribution estimation of pavement using array ground penetrating radar

(in English) In order to detect pavement damage on airport taxiway, we applied a novel method to common midpoint (CMP) dataset obtained by multistatic ground penetrating radar (GPR) system YAKUMO. Thin cracks within asphalt layers cause slight changes in electromagnetic wave propagation velocity. The proposed method enables higher-resolution visualization of velocity changes from two time dataset with a small number of CMP traces. Measurements were made over a year using an airport taxiway model with artificial damages, and the changes of the state of inside the pavement due to pressurization and time lapse were investigated. The datasets are analyzed with the proposed method to find out how the conditions of pavement changes by pressurization and time course. The results confirmed that the proposed method could capture not only the propagation velocity change of the overall pavement but also the local area change.
