A Proposal of Reducing Communication Load and Radio Interference in ZigBee Networks by Cooperation of Wireless LAN

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Lately, ZigBee has been attracting attention as a short-range wireless communication standard. In a ZigBee network, it is necessary to suppress frame transfer load because ZigBee needs to operate with low power consumption and within narrow communication bandwidth. On the other hand, in typical environments where a ZigBee network is utilized, it generally coexists with wireless LANs with relatively long idle periods. Thus, we have proposed a method to reduce communication load in ZigBee nodes by offloading ZigBee frames to a wireless LAN. However, no radio interference is assumed between the ZigBee network and the wireless LAN. In this paper, we study effective ZigBee frames’ offloading in environments where the radio interference occurs.
