This paper presents the average block error rate (BLER) performance using time division multiplexing (TDM) based reference signal (RS) multiplexing for faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). We propose a subframe structure in which a cyclic prefix (CP) is appended to only the TDM based RS block and the first FTN symbol for achieving the accurate estimation of a channel response in a multipath fading channel with the low CP overhead. We apply minimum mean square error (MMSE) based turbo soft interference canceller (SIC) for suppressing the high-level inter-symbol-interference (ISI) and inter-sub-carrier-interference (ICI) due to FTN signaling. Computer simulation results show that the loss in the required average received signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) satisfying the average block error rate (BLER) of $10^{−2} $ of the FTN signaling using the TDM RS based channel estimation with the proposed subframe structure is decreased by approximately 1.2 and 1.8 dB compared to that assuming ideal channel estimation for QPSK and 16QAM, respectively, when the improvement ratio of the spectrum efficient from CP-OFDM is 1.31 with the rate-1/2 turbo code. |
