An energy-efficient and wide-area uplink IoT data transmission scheme using UAV

(in English) In recent years, in the fifth generation mobile communications system (5G) has been considered to realize a smart society in which various data are gathered through Internet of Things (IoT) terminals distributed everywhere. However, the data collection from IoT terminals at rural and suburban areas such as mountains or river field is a problem because they are far from base stations. In conventional studies, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) uplink data collection scheme in which UAV acts as a terminal base station in the air has been proposed. In that scheme, however, time division multiple access was used and the transmission efficiency was not high. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an UAV-based uplink IoT data collection scheme using frequency division multiple access to archive both energy-efficient and fair transmission. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated through numerical simulations.
