[Invited Talk] Simulation Data Driven Construction of Real-Time Estimator of Electric Fields Induced in the Brain by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Coil

(in English) By putting a TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) coil on the head, one can electrically stimulate local portions of the brain. It is important for applying TMSs to neurosurgeries to accurately estimate the stimulated locations of the brain. Given the 3D distribution of the electrical characteristics such as the impedance inside the head, one can simulate the 3D electric field induced by the TMS coil. Each organ of the head such as the gray matter and the skull has different electrical characteristics and their 3D distribution in the patient’s head should be inferred by analyzing the MR image of the head. This accurate MR image analysis currently requires manual operation and is very time consuming. In this article, we introduce our study on construction of a deep neural network that can directly estimate the 3D electric field in real-time induced by the TMS coil.
