Cell Voltage Equalizer with Embedded Switch Module for Lithium-Ion Batteries -- Circuit Simplification by Halving Switch Count --

(in English) Cell voltage equalizers using an isolated converter and cell selection switch module have been used for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, multiple bidirectional switches are required for each cell in the switch module, increasing the circuit complex and volume. This paper proposes a novel cell voltage equalizer embedding the switch module with a voltage multiplier. The switch count can be nearly halved thanks to the embedded switch module, achieving simplified circuit and reduced circuit volume. The experimental equalization test using the prototype of the proposed equalizer was performed for four LIB cells connected in series from an initially-imbalanced condition. The proposed equalizer eliminated the voltage imbalance, demonstrating the equalization performance.
