Authors have proposed MIMO Doppler imaging method for forward imaging by Stepped Multiple Frequency Radar assuming the application to automotive radar for the autonomous driving. The method is a hybrid method which improves the angular resolution of forward area by the narrow beam of beam-forming process after the gating process by Doppler imaging and also improves that of side area with Doppler imaging after the gating process by the beam-forming to identify the side where the target exists. The proposed method overcomes not only the deterioration of the resolution of forward area but also the problem that Doppler imaging cannot identify the side of the target. In this article, we focus on the forward area and consider the arrangement of MIMO array elements which realize the high angular resolution with a small number of transmit and receiving array elements by permitting the power of the grating lobe outside of the gate by Doppler imaging. We propose a method which optimizes the arrangement of sparse and unequally-spaced MIMO array elements from the aspect of the number of element, ambiguity bounds, and low side lobe using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm. The proposed method is also evaluated by computational simulations. |
