Rolling-shutter-based QPSK OFDM optical camera communication by spatial luminance distribution

(in English) Rolling-shutter (RS)-based optical camera communications (OCC) have been studied to increase the symbol rate to several hundred times or several thousand times faster than the frame rate of the off-the-shelf image sensor. To increase the number of bits per symbol available for RS-based OCC, we have demonstrated 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) RS-based OCC by spatial luminance distribution of the light emitting diode (LED) surface. In this study, to increase the data rate further, we investigate RS-based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) OCC by spatial luminance distribution. RS-based quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) OFDM OCC is experimentally demonstrated with 4, 8, and 16 subcarriers which corresponds to 664- or 399-, 332- or 199-, and 166- or 100-Hz subcarrier spacing.
