A study on content registration with blockchain in CCN

(in English) In recent years, the amount of traffic has increased due to large size contents distribution such as music and movie. These backgrounds have exposed some problems to existing IP networks based on communicating its location of hosts, and have risen a demand for new network architectures more suitable for content delivery. Content Centric Networking have attracted attentions as non-IP network architecture based on content identifier in communication procedures. In CCN, the user specifies the content name to acquire the content, and gets the content from the cache of router/content provider in the network. The content acquisition from the cache can reduce the redundant traffic to the content provider and realize a network with low-latency. However, since CCN is a distributed system utilizing the cache function, there is no mechanism that a CCN node can immediately check what kind of content is delivered and traffic volume for each content in CCN. These become problems when content providers pay charge of their content traffic for the network service provider. In this research, we propose a contents registration mechanism in CCN by sharing the content ledger among routers using blockchain. More specifically, content information is issued as a transaction in a block chain in a distributed environment, and the block chain in which the transactions are accumulated is shared as a ledger of content among the content provider and the routers. We implement the prototype of this system on the CCN software platform “Cefore” and evaluate the system.
