A forward model of neural-network (NN) using poles and residues in rational function of S parameters has already been proposed to rapidly calculate frequency characteristics of microwave bandpass filters (BPF) from structural parameters, which may be suitable for optimization designs of BPF with transmission zeros (TZs). However, the conventional method has two problems: one is that initial values of optimization cannot be determined by the forward model, and the other is that the forward model becomes complicated because the number of parameters to be treated in NN is sextuple the filter order. To solve the problems, in this paper, we propose an automatic optimization design method of BPF with TZs using both forward and inverse models of NN. In the proposed method, a new forward model of NN is introduced to evaluate TZ frequency positions in addition to the forward model for passband evaluation, leading to reduce the number of parameters to be treated in NN. Thus, the proposed method makes it possible to find good initial values with inverse model, and efficiently optimize structural parameters of BPF thanks to two forward models. As an example, we demonstrate that a fourth-order microstrip BPF with two TZs is automatically designed just by inputting a theoretically synthesized coupling matrix. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proven by comparing EM simulated frequency responses of the designed filter with ideal ones. |
